Agency platform comparison
GoHighLevel vs ActiveCampaign for Agencies
Start with the work you sell: operating client systems or delivering email campaigns.

Which belongs on your shortlist?
Our editorial assessment: evaluate GoHighLevel first if your agency needs client sub-accounts alongside funnels, booking, and sales follow-up. Evaluate ActiveCampaign if the immediate brief is email marketing with audience segmentation and behavior-based journeys. This is a way to organize a buying decision, not a performance ranking.
There is overlap. HighLevel lists email marketing and workflow automation; ActiveCampaign lists landing pages on Plus and above. Neither a feature name nor a price establishes which tool will suit your team’s day-to-day work.
Compare the published scope
| Requirement | GoHighLevel | ActiveCampaign |
|---|---|---|
| Capture and follow-up | Lists website and funnel building, forms, booking calendars, CRM and pipelines, and workflow automation. | Lists email marketing and automation across its email plans; Plus and above also list landing pages. |
| Automation limits | Lists workflow automation among its core features. Check your intended workflow in the chosen tier. | Starter lists five actions per automation; Plus, Pro, and Enterprise list unlimited automation actions. |
| Account and staff planning | Starter includes three sub-accounts; Unlimited and Agency Pro include unlimited sub-accounts. All three list unlimited users and contacts. | Email plan cards list one user for Starter and Plus, three for Pro, and five for Enterprise. Pricing includes a contact-count selector. |
Users and client accounts are different units. These ActiveCampaign plan cards do not establish an agency-wide client-account allowance. Ask for the account ownership, access, and billing arrangement you need before estimating a multi-client budget.
Read the billing conditions beside the number
HighLevel’s monthly pricing view lists Starter at $97, Unlimited at $297, and Agency Pro at $497. Its page identifies additional usage charges for email, SMS, calling, and some AI features. Unlimited contacts or sub-accounts do not make those activities free.
ActiveCampaign’s email view, with 1,000 contacts and USD selected, displayed starting prices of $15 for Starter, $49 for Plus, $79 for Pro, and $145 for Enterprise per month, billed annually. These are annual-billing monthly equivalents, not month-to-month quotes. Recheck the contact band and channel selection on its official pricing page.
For an agency estimate, write down the required client arrangement, staff access, contact counts, sending volume, and any add-ons. Compare quotes for that same scope and billing period before calling either option cheaper.
Match the demo to the service you deliver
For a lead-handling service, ask HighLevel to demonstrate an inquiry moving from a form into a pipeline, through follow-up, and into a booking. Its published core features cover those categories; the complete workflow still needs evaluation. Agency Pro also lists SaaS Mode and automated sub-account creation if software subscriptions are part of your planned offer.
For an email service, ask ActiveCampaign to demonstrate a journey that branches when a contact clicks or purchases. Its marketing automation page describes conditional paths and behavioral triggers. Confirm the required actions and segmentation are available in your chosen plan; the product overview is not a tier entitlement list.

A practical acceptance checklist
- Use a test contact to walk through the exact service you intend to deliver, including an unsubscribe or stop condition.
- Check what agency staff and client staff can view, change, and export.
- Confirm how account ownership and billing work when a client leaves.
- Price that setup at today’s contact and activity levels, then at a larger planning scenario.
